Understanding the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia's national scheme for people with a significant and permanent disability. It provides individualised funding to eligible Australians to access the supports and services they need to live an ordinary life.
At Passionate Care Assisted Services, we are a fully registered NDIS provider, which means we have met the rigorous quality and safety standards set by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. We can provide services under all three plan management types.
Whether you are new to the NDIS or looking for a better provider, our experienced team can help you understand your plan, maximise your funding, and access the supports that matter most to you.
NDIS Funding Categories
NDIS funding is organised into three main categories, each designed to support different aspects of your life and goals.
Core Supports
Funding for everyday activities including daily living support, community participation, consumables, and transport.
Capacity Building
Funding to build your skills and independence, including support coordination, improved daily living, and social participation.
Capital Supports
Funding for higher-cost items such as assistive technology, equipment, and home or vehicle modifications.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding and support to people with a permanent and significant disability. It aims to help participants achieve their goals, increase their independence, and participate in their community.
Who is eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS, you must be aged under 65, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities. The disability must be likely to be lifelong.
How do I apply for the NDIS?
You can apply for the NDIS by contacting the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) on 1800 800 110 or by completing an Access Request Form. You will need to provide evidence of your disability from your treating health professionals. Our team can assist you with this process.
What is an NDIS plan?
An NDIS plan is a document that outlines your goals, the supports and services you need to achieve those goals, and the funding allocated to pay for these supports. Your plan is developed with you and your planning team, and is reviewed regularly.
What are the different plan management options?
There are three ways to manage your NDIS funding: Self-Managed (you manage your own budget and pay providers directly), Plan-Managed (a registered plan manager handles payments and financial administration on your behalf), or NDIA-Managed (the NDIA pays registered providers directly).
Can I choose my own service providers?
Yes. Under the NDIS, you have choice and control over your supports and who provides them. If you are self-managed or plan-managed, you can choose both registered and unregistered providers. If your plan is NDIA-managed, you can choose from registered providers.
How often is my NDIS plan reviewed?
NDIS plans are typically reviewed annually, though you can request an unscheduled review if your circumstances change significantly. During a review, you can discuss what is working well, any changes to your needs, and adjust your goals and funding.
What funding categories does the NDIS cover?
NDIS funding covers three main support categories: Core Supports (everyday activities, consumables, transport, and community participation), Capacity Building Supports (building your independence and skills), and Capital Supports (assistive technology and home modifications).
